An award-winning workplace culture

We’re totally stoked to have been certified as a WorldBlu freedom-centred workplace for seven years running. This year it’s been even more exciting though, because WorldBlu has singled us out as leaders in the field.

At the WorldBlu Freedom at Work Experience summit in San Diego last month, Boost picked up two awards.

Our CEO Nathan was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work advancing freedom and democracy in the workplace. WorldBlu founder and CEO Traci Fenton talked about the challenges Nathan has faced, as well as the results: “a world-class organisation that is a model for their community and their country”. Congratulations Nathan!

At the same time, Boost won the Top Practice award for the way our Culture Posters initiative helps us balance the individual and the collective, ensuring that both are thriving.

For these awards we were up against billion dollar global giants, so it’s a great example of the way we Kiwis can punch above our weight.

Is Boost NZ’s best place to work?

We’re also up for two awards at New Zealand’s first ever Employee Experience awards.

We’re finalists for the Best Workplace award (for outfits between 20 and 50 people) and the Inspiration Award for Best Initiative (for our fortnightly One-on-one meetings).

The award ceremony is on Thursday 8 November. Wish us luck!

Agile training in the Boost environment

One of the benefits of our Agile training is that you get to see a working Agile studio in action. This makes it easier to understand how you can put the theory into practice in your own work. Plus you get to play ping pong in the breaks.

The Agile Professional Foundation brings you into Boost’s Wellington HQ for a two-day Agile immersion experience. The course is ICAgile-certified and gives you the chance to learn with coaches who run Agile projects every day. You’ll see real Agile artefacts in action, and complete practical activities, empowering you to make a bigger impact the moment you get back to work.

Case study on reducing project risk with prioritisation

Here’s the next post in our guv’nor Nathan Donaldson’s ongoing series on Agile risk management.

In it you’ll learn how rigorous prioritisation let us release a product earlier and use the resulting feedback and revenue to enhance the app, maximising the value we delivered.

Do you procrastinate?

Many of us do, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. In Agile we do just enough, just in time. This means we have the latest information on which to base our decisions and don’t waste effort on work that later turns out to be unneeded or outdated.

New to agile? Remember one thing: Just enough, just in time — Bob Hartman on Agile for All

Of course, it is possible to leave stuff too late, as Tim Urban recounts in his popular TED video (amazing that 24 million people have got around to watching it — maybe they were putting off doing something else).
