Bringing more te reo Māori into your mahi

We were interested to see this article on Stuff about the way using te reo in the workplace increases job satisfaction.

Recently we’ve been using a bit more te reo ourselves. We’re just starting out, but thought that it might be worth sharing what we’ve learnt so far. So we’ve pulled together a kete of resources, tools and tips to help you give it a go.

Agile questions answered

I thought I’d have a crack at answering a few queries on the question-and-answer website Quora. Here are the questions I’ve answered so far:

What is Scrum?

I tried to answer this in one sentence. That might have been a bit ambitious. Here’s what I came up with.

What is the difference and similarity between Agile and Scrum?

I stole the answer to this related question from a blog post I wrote a couple of years ago. Here’s how I answered.

What is the difference between the definition of done and acceptance criteria?

This one was a bit more specific. I’d written a blog post on this very question so it seemed like a good candidate. Here’s how I summed it up.

What do you reckon, are my answers any good? Are there any other questions you think I should answer? Email info@boost.co.nz with your ideas.

Developer edition Intro to Agile hosts Mette and Richard

Special free Introduction to Agile for developers

We’re running a special edition of our free Introduction to Agile just for developers. It’s a chance to build your understanding of Agile in a fun and interactive session with fellow developers.

Agile was designed by and for developers. The aim was to make software development more satisfying and less stressful. Understanding the Agile mindset gives you the levers to pull to create a successful career.

Who is the workshop for?

The course is for anyone developing software: frontend, backend, mobile, web, game, security, data science, quality assurance, DevOps, the whole shebang.

You might be completely new to Agile or keen to compare your experience with others.

Who’s taking the workshop

The session will be hosted by Boost Agile coach Mette Harker and Richard Matthews, a full-stack developer with six years Agile experience here at Boost.

What it covers

The workshop is a practical introduction to:

  • what Agile is
  • where it came from
  • the different Agile methodologies
  • how Agile works
  • why it works better (in our experience)
  • signs that it’s not working as well as it should
  • how to make best use of it.

Adapting to changes in the charity sector

JBWere have released their 2021 New Zealand Cause Report. The report tracks changes in the not-for-profit sector since 2017. It also includes an analysis of individual charity sectors and a first look at the impacts of COVID-19.

If you’re in the sector, the report is a chance to get a steer on how to adapt and thrive.

The report also gives this advice for the sector:

“To remain viable and effective, it will need support for investing in core infrastructure, in exploring new ways of telling its impact to supporters and investors, in working collaboratively in the community, and in developing its leaders for a new era.”
