Boost. The power of positive impact

30 July 2019

Boost wins at Wellington Gold Awards!

We are beyond excited to have taken out Team Gold at this year’s Wellington Gold Awards.

The awards celebrate excellence and innovation in the Wellington region and it was a fantastic occasion. About 800 people were there, including the Minister of Finance Grant Robinson and the mayor Justin Lester. Boost created quite a stir, with lots of people coming over to find out more about us. That included the mayor, who asked if he could pay us a visit at the Boost studio.

Winning any award is awesome, but the Team Gold award is particularly special. That’s because it recognises the way the Boost team work together on a quest to create the best workplace in New Zealand.

The practical ways we do this are often unusual and untried. They wouldn’t work without a team that has the talent and enthusiasm to turn experiments into excellence.

What we’re doing to build NZ’s best workplace

What most intrigued the National Business Review about Boost?

Boost’s unusual structure, processes and culture continue to catch the attention of the business media. The latest outlet to take a look at what makes us different is the National Business Review.

The NBR have put out two pieces on us recently. Grant Walker’s video interview with Boost CEO Nathan Donaldson was especially interested in the way our Agile approach affected how we operate. Gill South’s article led with Nathan’s plans to hand over ownership to Boost’s employees. Both pieces offer insights into the benefits any organisation can get from becoming Agile and bringing in a freedom-centred culture.

Getting more value from your user stories

We had lots of interest in our user story examples, so thought we’d share a bunch of our other resources on the subject.

User story examples

Good, bad and ugly examples of user stories, along with explanations of why they work and why they don’t, to help you create stories that deliver value early and often.

User stories in Scrum

The Scrum Guide doesn’t mention user stories. If your Scrum Team has opted to specify Product Backlog Items with user stories, this guide shows how to make them work in Scrum.
