Boost. The power of positive impact

24 March 2020

Make more of your day

Here’s our latest selection of news, tools, tips and ideas for ways you can make a bigger impact every day.

You’ll get a sneak peek at our new Project success checklist, plus updates on COVID-19, security and hiring at Boost.

On the subject of COVID-19, the team at Boost are now working from home. We'll miss having our clients and friends drop in, but we've decided this is the best way we can keep working and keep everyone safe.

We hope you all stay positive, stay connected and stay well.

Two team members discussing the Project success checklist.

How likely is your project to succeed?

Being involved in a software development project that goes over time or budget or delivers a product your customers don’t care for is just depressing.

If you’re going to invest time and money in a project, you want to be sure it succeeds.

That’s why we put together our Project success checklist

This details 11 practices that have been found to predict success in software development projects. Answer 11 questions and you can identify how likely your project is to succeed.

You can then maximise your chance of success by introducing any of the practices that you’re not currently using.

We thought we’d give our loyal Boost News crew a sneak peek at the checklist. Let us know what you think!

COVID-19 update: Agile training on hold

Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, we’re pausing our Agile training.

We’ve postponed the April 20-21 Agile Professional Foundation course. We’ll be reviewing later APFs as the situation evolves.

Currently, our next APF is scheduled for 10–11 August.

We’ve also suspended our fortnightly two-hour Introduction to Agile courses for now.

We’re very sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

We’re looking into online options for both these courses, so let us know if you’d be interested in doing either the two-day APF or the two-hour Intro as a webinar. And please get in touch if you have any questions.

Katherine Nagels

Katherine shares the lowdown on digital security

Before such gatherings started to become a thing of the past, Boost developer Katherine Nagels got to attend the OWASP security conference in Auckland last month.

She’s put together an intriguing and eye-opening blog post on what she learned, complete with security tips, ethical questions around software and security, and a potted history of information security.

James Erwin

James joins the band

Boost’s new digital designer James Erwin loves putting technology to work for people.

“I’ve always had an affinity for the digital world and I love working with computers,” he says. “As a designer, my job is to ask, how does this affect the audience, how does this benefit the users?”

After hours, it’s the same story, with a DIY home studio set up so he and his collaborators can create their own sounds.

“I like being able to put everything else aside and focus on creating something I enjoy listening back to. Making music is an infinite cycle, something I can work at forever.”

Our next Agile Professional Foundation is set for 10–11 August unless postponed due to COVID-19
