Running a development continuum retrospective.

Remote retrospective for tailored skill-building

Easy to run remotely, the Development continuum retro is a great way to tailor your skill-building to each team member and their particular stage of development.

It’s a good retro to run:

  • a couple months into a new project to check the support the team need to keep expanding their skills
  • when new members join and you want to build relationships that make it easy for them to ask for support
  • if you want to encourage constant professional growth.

Harnessing the rise of remote interaction — tips from HootSuite

Even before the pandemic, people have been interacting remotely more and more thanks to the inexorable rise of social media. So what does that mean for our organisations?

Social media management platform Hootsuite have released their Global state of digital report for 2022 to help us answer that.

It’s a big beast but luckily they've summed it up in a top takeaways digest, with practical “What to do” tips for each section.

National Digital Forum conference comes to life online

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing the NDF conference to life online this year. The effort that went into making it accessible and inclusive was impressive.

Hopefully next year we’ll be back together in person (and back with the free ice creams).

For those outside the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums), NDF is a network dedicated to exploring how digital technologies can enhance our culture and heritage experiences.

Case study on remote collaboration

It was very cool to be able to share what we’d learned on the digitalpasifik.org project at the conference.

Project lead Tim Kong gave a typically considered and insightful talk on what it’s like to suddenly find that your collaborative project has to be run remotely thanks to a wee global pandemic.

Our own Nick Schuler shared what he’d learnt designing a digital experience for users with the painfully constrained internet connections that prevail in the Pacific, and how you can still engage and learn from users even when you can’t work face to face.

Remote Agile training reveals COVID’s silver lining

Every cloud has a silver lining, even COVID. After we reworked our two Agile courses so we could run them remotely during lockdown, we were surprised to find that in many ways they were better than in person.

Delivering them via Zoom makes it easy to split into smaller groups and people seem to find the new online exercises fun and instructive at the same time.

Plus we love putting together the welcome packs that we send to people doing the Agile Professional Foundation.

“The pack that was sent to us made the virtual course a more engaging experience...You guys thought of everything!” — Lichelle Evans

Maryam enjoys The UX conference from the comfort of the office massage chair

Office massage chair makes for relaxing UX conference

Our designers Emma, Nick and Maryam got a real kick out of UX New Zealand 2022.

It was Maryam’s first time at UXNZ and she was impressed by how engaging the conference was online.

“It was really fun doing it remotely,” she says. “It was managed really well and there was lots of interactivity…I learnt so much.”

Of course, one benefit of attending remotely was the chance to do so from the comfort of Boost’s new massage chair (thanks Nathan!).
